For a hip, cool, quirky, funky, home-grown, genuine experience come to Cavalcade's Monthly Variety Show. Listen to the witty and often poignant ongoing tale about a fictitious town called Melon, hear phenomenal music performed by guest musicians and our own in-house band, and go home with a smile on your face, a skip in your step, and thoughts to ponder.

The M.C., Mr. Kreie, is (& has been) a viable and integral part of these shows for as long as we've been going there.

and what variety --> the beautiful and very talented Destinee (without "band") is quite engaging, and, of course, entertaining. Good way to start the evening.
ETHAN (accompanied by Jared, Rudy, and Martin) was pretty good, too -- but his excellent vocals were not PRONOUNCED enough to dominate over the rest of the band. Yes, when he sings (and everyone who has heard him knows he is very, very good) it should be the main instrument -- but I think he should have talked with the sound people before getting underway. And the song title was mis-labeled -- but I didn't know it was The Hollies who composed this -- Long Tall Woman in a Black Dress.
The, "Craybackers"? They too should have had sound issues resolved -- and in the future hopefully they'll take care of that before playing. The harp player's mike was not functional for what seemed a while, as the guitarist was underway. Oh well. They do fill a niche in the 'variety' -- singer/guitar/instrumental accompaniment.
JOHN COUGHRAN's original, something to do with HURTS LIKE HELL was quite good, with solid help from Sam & Sofia.
Lisa L and poetry -- an appreciated divergence from the otherwise mostly musical offerings. Her poem of being locked in her apartment with the restless souls of famous writers was very entertaining.
Jessie and Ellis have become fixtures at the 'Cade, and will be missed. I suspect they'll be back. Ellis' chorus-harmony with Jessie's singing was spot-on.
Now, what was this "big rock candy mountain" thing?
The "Life on Mars" was a fitting tribute to the late great Bowie -- sung by Sam with help from Sofia, Jared, and Rudy.
Everyone always enjoys Cullen's ongoing "Prophet" -- amusing to see the stack of papers of The Story So Far -- and for Cullen to "trip down memory lane" with an episode I must have missed when originally offered. Ha! the raft with sans-apparel young ladies and the airplane pilot with a choice to make ~
Okay, ETHAN's "Rockin' Me" was an ambitious effort -- but could have been enhanced by the other musicians chiming in on the chorus -- and we all know Jared can sing, as well as Martin. But: Martin was (again) more than competent on drums! and Rudy was solid on the bass.
AMANDALIN & SHAWNEE were, in my humble opinion, the surprise of the evening. Great intertwining tightly-locked harmony, and amusing song about Lava as well.
Ellis and Jessie, in a sense, said "goodbye" again. I hope Jessie continues to study and expand and pursue the singing (and music in general) and also hope Ellis continues to practice and expand his keyboard abilities -- in both or either case(s) -- they should go far.
Jim's "Jogger" was, of course, entertaining, especially as the story unfolded.
Destinee -- thanks for playing twice!
Cullen and Jared backed up Tasha on "I'll follow the sun", and
JOSH invariably does not hold back. Didn't someone (a while ago) label him as "the teen-age heart-throb"? Well, he ain't a teen-ager, but the appeal is easy to picture.
Emulating the very Variety of which not only the monthly Show but the Cavalcade itself represents, are "the Vitamin B's" (Carrie could have and should have sung more!)
Thanks again for a fun evening, everyone ~
