Variety Show, Sat. April 9 -->
as usual, an evening of real "variety" -- a wide spectrum of performances and talent.

"First up" was (erroneously entitled Bob Mayer & band) -- Not! No individual names, this was a happy collective, a choir, a multi-person and instrumental singing ensemble! “oh happy day” -- well done and uplifting!

Martin (Selby): THIS GUY IS REALLY GOOD. Martin channeled Robert Johnson with a very expressive rendition of " Crossroads". And he says he has only recently started doing "slide" guitar ~

Larry played “2 songs” on his mandolin -- and though like everyone else I like "good" guitar, it's also good to have different stringed-instruments up there. Good job, Larry!

Steve Hight really added variety with his poetry. Wish my memory was better, as I do remember being swept along with his narrative, but cannot recall the subject nor content! Such is the power of an author reciting her/his work -- to carry you with it, but afterwards, like a dream ...

("Always a treat") Destinee Reed played solo, will be back w/group in 2 weekends!

Jonah on piano (a piece by Schubert, I believe?) – he too, is getting better and more confident. He did really well and I hope he continues down this path ~ (well, the path of piano-student, of course)

Thad (instrumental): Mr. T V'S exhibited an intricate, versatile, and meditative original composition. A deep well of creativity, that guy ...

The Vitamin B’s (“Little Sparrow”): IMHO, this was the highlight of the evening! Carrie's vocal performance was “captivating” – and in the time I’ve known her, continues to get better, and not “merely” better. Oh! It helps to have a tight and accomplished backing band! And I didn't know Nita could play keyboards so well! It's fun, really, to "discover" hitherto-unknown talents in people you've known for a while ~

Prophet (Cullen) always fun, but to the un-initiated, he is (in no small part) talking to those who’ve been following the story. Still, he does an excellent job of weaving imagery -- such as the crazy rope-sculpture creation in the coffee shop …

“Gone gone gone” by Tasha, Jared, Sofia, Sam, Rudy: good tight fun group. They could get up and play a set anywhere in town !

“craybacker’s” ???

Levi/Alex – instrumental: Thanks Levi, and thanks Alex: for showing us what a versatile top-notch drummer is all about!

Jim “diet song” -- the funniest thing I’ve ever heard Jim sing. I was laughing so hard, almost to tears!

Al: tho’ he was goofy, and had rare mis-strums and such, he continued his confident banter and stage-presence, demonstrating what a superb show-man he is

• My pager went off and I had to leave – I’m still employed and there was a situation which demanded my prompt attention. I was looking forward to “rocky” on drums!

(Jared and Sofia and Sam and Rudy played “tighten up”)

Josh -- has he ever NOT been good and entertaining?

Cullen/Erika/Raquel on drums/Jared performed "Amy” – this, with Erika on presumed vocals, had to have been pretty good.
